Teething

Teething is the emergence of a child’s first teeth, often called baby teeth or milk teeth. Teething can commence as early in babies as young as three months old, and can last until three years old. While some babies don’t experience symptoms of teething, teething can be accompanied by drooling, biting and chewing, swollen gums, chin rash, cheek rubbing, sleep problems, refusal to eat food, and irritability. To help with a baby’s teething, commonly used items are teething rings, cold foods, baby oral gel products, and sometimes baby-formulated acetaminophen. A pediatrician should always be consulted before administering teething remedies.
